The incident occurred in Hartford County at the Target store on Sunday, July 14, in South Windsor.
According to Sgt. Mark Cleverdon of the South Windsor Police, a woman, and her two adult daughters came to police headquarters to report that a strange man had followed them through the store. They were scared enough to ask a Target employee to escort them to their car in the parking lot.
Cleverdon said that while in the parking lot, a vehicle driven by Tolland County resident James F. Cordeira of Willington circled the lot and drove by the victim's vehicle several times before following them out of the lot and onto Buckland Hills Drive.
The women drove to the police station.
The incident was confirmed via security footage inside and outside of Target and at Lowe’s, Cleverdon said. Corderia was identified in part from his vehicle registration, and an arrest warrant was sought.
He turned himself in on Thursday, Aug. 8, and was charged with stalking, disorderly conduct, and driving with a suspended license.
Corderia was held on a $15,000 surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Manchester Superior Court on Friday, Aug. 9.
